WooHoo! Orlando is actually all grown up! Finding out that Orlando has a place only for adults, looking for some grown up entertainment, is quite incredible. In a town single-mindedly dedicated to kiddie and family attractions, the Treasure Tavern is a fresh breath of naughty air.
The Treasure Tavern is located just off Orlando’s theme park avenue, known the world over as International Drive. The Treasure Tavern presents a two-hour nightly performance that features comedy, dance, music and burlesque (no skin shows though the skirts are short).
The theme of the show is steeped in pirate symbols and is styled on the European variety-show model. The humour is very suggestive with plenty of double entendres, bathroom and sex jokes. It is all very good fun. If you are one of those who are super politically correct and easily offended – don’t go.
The evening’s entertainment includes a magician, mime artist, contortionist, a quick-change act and acrobats. The show never stales because many of the acts change every year but it still stays robustly wicked. This year they added live singers to the production. This is reason enough for the locals and tourists to repeat their visits again and again.
What is quite incredible is how the waitresses manage to serve you drinks and food at your table and still stay in character and remain a part of the show. They even make the food the show’s prop! I take my hat off to them.
A really pleasant and unexpected surprise is the food. The Treasure Tavern puts on a four course meal that is worth every cent you pay. Here is a sample of the dinner menu: Cream of vegetable soup, followed by mixed green salad with olives and blue cheese crumbles. Beef Tenderloin served with fresh asparagus with hollandaise sauce and loaded mashed potato for main course. Dessert is Opera cake, a delicious coffee chocolate dessert. You get unlimited soda with the meal and the liquor bar has an excellent variety.
The Treasure Tavern is nearly always full and while you don’t have to make a reservation, I highly recommended that you do.
