Orlando is rightly famed as the “Theme Park Capital of the World.” The city is home to the most popular and big name entertainment parks such as Walt Disney World Resort, which comprises of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom. Universal Studios and the Harry Potter theme park are other hugely popular parks.  Then there are the exclusively water wonders of Wet 'n Wild, Discovery Cove, and Sea World for holidaymakers in Orlando.

With so much on offer and so much to do – for both adults and kids – getting to and from these properties is not an easy task. The distances between each are large and moving from one to the other can be a nightmare. This can be especially trying if you have to move the entire family from your accommodation to the gates of these parks.

There are buses, both public and theme park sponsored, private shuttles and taxis. There are problems with all these modes. The buses, shuttles and those run by the large theme parks are not regular or reliable and may not suit you and your family’s schedule and timings. Also many of them leave you far from the gates. By the end of the day, walking to the entrances and around the theme parks themselves, you could well be exhausted. The taxi prices can be prohibitive and may well disrupt your plans or considerably alter them.

The distances between each attraction and fun-site and the sheer acreage is huge. For instance Disney’s properties cover about 47 square kilometers! Besides the theme parks, Orlando has so much more you can see and do. So hiring a car is probably the best idea. It is also the most convenient and economical overall, hassle-free and time saving.

Orlando offers another advantage to the hire-a-car/self-drive option. The city’s excellent road system is really easy to navigate with plenty of helpful signage to guide you. What is of even more importance, to you, is that the two main avenues – Interstate 4 (I-4) and International Drive – connect nearly all of Orlando’s theme parks and hotspots.

Oh yeah! Car parking at the theme parks, resorts and hotels are free! So hiring a car will get you around at your own pace and plan; give you the flexibility to explore; take many of the wrinkles out of your vacation and thereby improve your overall enjoyment.

There are plenty of car rental companies in Orlando. All of them are online and have their offices in and outside Orlando International Airport terminal. Car rental companies are also aplenty around the city with many of them having a presence in hotels and near all the theme parks. Walt Disney World too has an official car rental agency.
 
When Hiring a Car…
•    Pre-book your car.
•    Shop around online and compare prices. You can get some really good deals and save money if you book in advance.
•    Pre-booking can save you time standing at long queues when you walk-in.
•    Keep in mind when booking a car that some of the smaller and economical agencies have terrible customer service records and also poor condition vehicles.
•    Keep plenty of change for the tollbooths. The convenience of toll roads are well worth the charge.
•    Watch out for unnecessary toll packages that the car rental agencies try to push on you.
