The dramatically lit Cinderella’s Castle, the laughing children, mysterious - though safe - jungles, the streets of classic Americana and the chuffing of railroad engines will always stay with you. You saw it in the movies but Disney World’s Magic Kingdom removes the real world and you revert to a six year old. You are drawn into worlds where the impossible and magic are normal – quite literally. You cannot help but love the Magic Kingdom because this is where magic actually lives. [More]

As a change from the staple offerings of Orlando, I took a half hour drive on US Highway 27 (Florida’s principal north-south highway). I was going to see an old time Florida landmark – the Florida Citrus Tower, which is just 40 kilometres out of Orlando. The Tower is located in Clermont, in what was once orange country. [More]

Halloween is the festival of the year in the USA, coming up just behind Christmas as the nation’s favourite holiday. Halloween is the perfect occasion for the family to do things together; carving pumpkins, putting up lights, decorating the yard and house and going through the overwhelming fun of preparing ghoulish costumes. However, Halloween was not always a family-friendly festival. It has transformed from an ancient pagan festival that revolved around appeasing the spiri... [More]

The Exotic Driving Experience is a case of ‘toys for the big boys.’ Just the thought of sitting behind the wheel of a sleek, shiny unimaginably fast Lamborghini and gunning it down the track without the fear of a speeding ticket is enough to have me and many others drooling. [More]

Centred above Cinderella Castle the colours of the fireworks range from magenta to pink to blazing white as rockets scream across the velvet black night sky leaving their fiery smoke trails. [More]

The Fantasy of Flight aircraft exhibition is located just outside Polk City in Central Florida. It is about an hour’s drive and some 40 miles from Orlando. Getting there is reward enough for the effort as you drive through Florida’s scenic countryside. [More]

There is no mistaking what you are in for when you visit Gatorland. The famous blue and white alligator mouth entrance is indicator enough of what is in store when you walk past those ‘welcoming’ teeth. Self-titled the ‘Alligator Capital of the World,’ Gatorland in Orlando is a sanctuary for over 4,000 alligators. [More]

Getting away from the bustle and crowds of Orlando and its numerous neon-lit attractions was my main motivation and Clearwater, less than two hour’s drive away, seemed like a good idea. Getting on board Captain Memo’s Pirate’s Ransom – scarlet painted and done up to look like a good old-fashioned buccaneering vessel - made the decision even better. [More]
